Syros, Greece
Syros is a Cycladic island and capital of the South Aegean Sea. Its capital is Ermoypoli. The name comes from the first inhabitants of the island, the Phoenicians. Today there are two versions about the name. According to the first, the name comes from the word Ousyra meaning happy, while according to the second, from the word Sur meaning rock. On the hill of Ano Syros is dominated by the Catholic Church of St. George.
