The Farne Islands are a small group of islands a few miles off the coast at the Northumberland village of Seahouses.The Farne Islands are formed by the most seaward outcrops of the volcanic intrusion called the Great Whin Sill. This can be traced from Upper Teessdale in Durham where it forms the High Force waterfall all the way up to North Northumberland to the Farne Islands and the rocks upon which sit the castles of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh. The dolerite rock gives the Farne Islands their distinctive blackened appearance.
Fair Isle is an island in northern Scotland, lying around halfway between mainland Shetland and the Orkney Islands. It is famous for its bird observatory and a traditional style of knitting (used to create patterns with multiple colours). Μany rare species of bird have been found on the island, and it is probably the best place in Western Europe to see skulking Siberian passerines such as Pechora Pipit.

Lindisfarne – also known as Holy Island – is one of the most important centres of early English Christianity. Irish monks settled here in AD 635 and the monastery became the centre of a major saint’s cult celebrating its bishop, Cuthbert. The masterpiece now known as the Lindisfarne Gospels was created here in the early 8th century. The ruins now visible are those of a 12th-century priory, which claimed direct descent from the early monastery.

The islands have a long history of human habitation, with evidence of Bronze Age settlements and Viking activity on the islands. Today, the islands are owned by the Nicolson family and are protected as a nature reserve by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Tresco (meaning "island of elder-trees") is the second-biggest island of the Isles of Scilly in Cornwall, England. The character of Tresco varies from that of the other islands in the Scilly archipelago as it is primarily run as a holiday resort. Tresco is a car-free island. Farm tractors with passenger trailers are used to transport overnight visitors and a few golf carts are available for disabled visitors.
